This blog is dedicated entirely to the investigation of: the oligopoly formed by the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Canadian National Railway. In this Blog, I will compare the railway industries in Canada with the United States. This blog with have many links, pictures and videos, please take your time exploring these various medias.
I am using Firm Theory to further aid in this investigation as well as looking into the reasons behind government intervention in industries.
CP and CN, bitter enemies, one a private owned railway that initially held a monopoly over this industry until the latter, a government run railway, was placed to destroy this monopoly and create the oligopoly that we know today. Why was this oligopoly created? Was it neccessary? Is there collusion? How does the Railway Association of Canada (RAC) effect this business?
All these questions and more will be answered.
